Position OverviewThis position is for two self-motivated, quick-learning, up-and-coming undergraduate researchers who are interested in exploring the use of second life batteries in building energy storage applications. The students will conduct research following directions from Dr. Kim. The research assistants (RA) are responsible for literature reviews of electrical building energy storages (use-cases, implementation examples, current limitations and barriers), community-engaged research, building energy simulation, and data analysis. The RAs will conduct surveys and interviews with community stakeholders involved in the research project.Job Description70% Aid and assist Laboratory Technologists in the functioning of the CEAE laboratories. 30% Aid and assist Laboratory Technologists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and spaces.Required Qualifications Highly organized. Self-motivated. Time management skill. Background in Building Thermal Science/ HVAC/ Building Energy Management. Preferred Qualifications1. Background knowledge in Thermodynamics, Building Thermal Loads, HVAC system. 2. Enrolled in Civil Engineering undergraduate at KU.Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
