UITS Student Intern-Python/AI/Web Application Developer Internship

The UITS Research Engagement team helps IU researchers use high-performance computing resources (e.g., Big Red 200 or Geode) in their research and curriculum development. The team is a collection of diverse and experienced individuals from different academic disciplines. Many are experienced mentors. Projects and consulting can involve nearly any research-related technology.
Job Summary
This internship will allow the student to work with a diverse team of experienced professionals who help researchers at IU use supercomputers and other high-performance computing systems. The specific project opportunities will depend on the student's strengths, skills, interests, and career goals; however, the goal of the team is to develop applications that help researchers use high-performance computers.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Works with AI chatbot integration, web development (e.g., PHP and Javascript), user facing tool development (e.g., Python), along with design, use case development, user surveys, and usability testing.
Works closely within a small diverse team of developers and technologists who will provide excellent mentoring and support.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required Currently enrolled as an Indiana University student
Preferred Currently enrolled in Information Technology, Informatics, or other computing/engineering field major or minor
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required Experience with and interest in user experience and usability
Experience with any of the technologies mentioned above
Experience designing, testing, developing, and/or implementing web applications
SKILLS
Required Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Natural curiosity, interest in growing, and developing marketable skills
Ability to effectively collaborate
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
