The Building Bridges intergenerational student program is a valuable part of CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting The Elderly. CAREGIVERS was founded in 1984 and has assisted thousands of seniors across Ventura County. All volunteers assist seniors in their own community. Through CAREGIVERS' Building Bridges program, you will be the Team Leader/Driver for 1-2 high school students (ages 14-18) who volunteer weekly or every other week for one hour with a senior citizen. The Student Teams will visit frail, homebound seniors after school or on the weekend and help with chores/yard work in a supervised setting. Students experience a real life history lesson through these visits with local seniors. As an added benefit, students may accumulate credits for community service requirements and valuable experience to mention on college applications. We need dedicated youth team leaders for this program. If you currently lead a youth group, you can apply along with your group. Or, you can apply to lead one of our existing youth teams.
