Operations Student Worker (Service Desk And Maintenance Teams)
Operations student worker teams and the services they provide supply and create first impressions of Luther Seminary for visitors. Is the campus well kept? Are the facilities clean? Are the restrooms fresh, clean and stocked? Is the environment friendly and hospitable? All of these positive impressions are supported through actions by student worker staff. Operations student workers are responsible for maintaining standards of excellent customer service and professional behavior in various and sometimes challenging situations.
Service Desk Team:
The Service Desk team serves as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and alumni on campus. We are also the public face of Luther Seminary. This team provides event assistance and hospitality.
- Administration and general office duties, including answering the phones and filing. Attention to detail, greeting customers, etc.
- Conduct rounds to check the status of facilities
- Provide assistance to campus community members needing building access.
- Respond promptly to phone calls or email inquiries. Re-direct as needed
- Check Info email hourly and direct all that in during a shift; keep all necessary tabs open
- Receive packages when the question isn't available
- Communicate with and escalate as needed to Operations, Facilities, and Office of Technology to notify them of any issues and respond to requests agency; escalating any issues on campus to 911 immediately
- Assist with events on campus; receiving deliveries, answering, and preparing spaces
- Make and check on Cafe Coffee Service each weekday
- Help with light set-up and tear-down, such as bathroom inspection, moving tables, assisting caterers, and communication with Event, Operations, and Facilities staff
Maintenance Team:
The Maintenance Team is the focal point for ensuring a clean, orderly, healthy, attractive and secure work environment for all of Luther Seminary's guests, students, staff, and faculty.
The Maintenance team provides the following services in support of Luther Seminary's mission:
- Operations administration support
- Campus Supply/Mail Center includes stocking shelves and sorting mail.
- Custodial services
- Routine (General cleaning of occupied spaces, Trash and recycling management)
- Project (Deep cleaning restrooms, flooring, and the windows)
- Event support
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events and activities; clean up furniture, equipment, and debris following these events.
- Light maintenance
Perform a variety of routine grounds maintenance duties in the beautification of the Seminary grounds. Operate powered and non-powered equipment and tools.
- Landscape plantings and mowing
- Leaf removal
- Snow clearing
- Grounds setup for events
- Mail and Consumable product deliveries
- Work with staff performing manual labor. Must be able to work in a hot or cold environment, as well as in a dusty and dirty environment. Perform demolition, moving materials, and equipment. Set up and cleaning of painting projects, surface preparation, area protection, and paint application.
Operations team workers are accountable to the Director of Operations, but may report to and take direction from other Operations department staff as designated by the Director.

- Self-starter, motivated to proactively address issues, and willing to ask for help
- Ability to describe problems as well as solutions on the phone
- Must be able to read and write English
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Expected to be on campus during peak periods: September, January, May and June. Extended time away from campus should be discussed in advance with the on-call team and Operations Coordinator
Desired Education and Experience:
- Experience working independently
- An interest in learning about technology and A/V equipment
- Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Students must be committed to a regular work schedule for the semester: some evenings and weekend work is required. Trios and breaks must be coordinated with the on-call team and Operations Coordinator. The student must be punctual. Advance notice must be given for time off.
