LOCATION: Tony Hillerman Middle School, 8101 Rainbow Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114

WEEKLY HOURS - .5 COURSE CREDIT: No more than 10 hours per week. No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit.

HOURLY PAY: $15/hr stipend (No taxes withheld)

WHEN WORK HAPPENS: (Monday-Thursday) 7:30 am-12:30 pm, with 30 30-minute duty-free lunch, on these dates:


Week 1: 6/2/25, 6/3/25, 6/4/25, 6/5/25,

Total paid hours this week: 20 hours

Week 2: 6/9/25, 6/10/25, 6/11/25, 6/12/25;

Total paid hours this week: 20 hours

Week 3: 6/16/25, 6/17/25, 6/18/25,

Total paid hours this week: 15 hours

Week 4: 6/23/25, 6/24/25, 6/25/25, 6/26/25, 6/27/25

Total paid hours this week: 25 hours

Total paid hours for the entire program:80 hours


WHEN WORK HAPPENS:

Monday -Thursday, June 10- June 28: 7:30 am-2 pm

NO WORK Wednesday, June 19, 2025, in honor of the Federal Holiday Juneteenth

Summary of Position

Scope of Work:

  • Assists in helping the Traditional Foods Educator in overseeing students' hands-on experiences in the Traditional Foods Summer Program (e.g.-prepping/clean up of materials and areas used, cooking, and assisting with monitoring of students).
  • Maintain confidentiality of students attending summer programs (e.g.-student data).
  • Meet with the Traditional Foods Educator daily to discuss programming.
  • Assist in helping to plan, participate, and evaluate cooking/classroom activities.
  • Assist the Traditional Foods Educator in providing and maintaining a safe environment for program participants.
  • Interacts and maintains a positive attitude and rapport with staff, students and parents of the program. Including demonstrating Native values.
  • Assists staff with the coordination of planned activities; determines materials needed for activities.
  • Always maintains professional conduct; wears appropriate clothing, and maintains cooking safety procedures (e.g., washing hands, pulling long hair back, and no sandals/flip flops for kitchen/cooking safety).
  • Hours of service are: June 10 through June 28, and hours are: 7:30 a.m. to 2.:30 p.m.
  • There might be some slight variations to the workday on particular days. The Traditional Foods Educator will give advance
  • No work/classes on Wednesday, June 19th
  • Hourly pay: $15
  • Performs other duties as required.

APS Indian Education Department: Agrees to monitor the progress and duties of the Student Summer Traditional Foods Assistant. The APS Indian Education Department retains the right to suspend, cancel or amend this agreement at any time should program funding and/or procedures indicate such a need.

Working and Physical Conditions/Onboarding Requirements (**vaccinations, etc)

Please speak to your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor regarding working and physical conditions at your intern site. You will also be required to sign and upload a W-9 and Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.

As part of your application, you will be expected to fill out your emergency contact information, school, and other personal information as required by Albuquerque Public Schools Work-Based Learning programs and the New Mexico Public Education Department. Failure to do so or omission, or erroneous information will result in your application being rejected.
