: Student Services Advisor Youth Automotive Training Center (YATC) Reports to: Executive Director Employment Type: Full-Time Work Environment: On-site with some off-site responsibilities (court visits, job placement meetings, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director).
Position Summary The Student Services Advisor plays a vital role in supporting the personal, academic, and career success of YATC students. This position provides holistic advising and counseling services to students and their families while fostering an environment that promotes growth, accountability, and long-term success. Student Services Advisors serve as mentors, advocates, and liaisons, ensuring that each student has the resources, skills, and guidance needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities Student Support & Advocacy Provide one-on-one and group advising to students and their families. Assist students with transportation to court dates, probation appointments, and other essential commitments. Guide students in obtaining important documents such as driver’s license and state identification cards. Support students in post-YATC planning, including college, trade school, or career pathways. Mediate and resolve student concerns while promoting healthy student-staff relationships. Remain on-call for student emergencies and crisis intervention. Life Skills Education Develop, coordinate, and deliver YATC’s life skills curriculum Exposure/Field Trips Facilitate instruction in areas such as: Resume writing & interview skills Professional and interpersonal communication Substance abuse prevention Goal setting Anger management and conflict resolution Financial literacy and other real-world skills
Career Preparation & Job Placement Collaborate with the Executive Director about Preparation and Placement of YATC  students in career opportunities. Assist students in developing the skills necessary to secure and maintain employment. Build relationships with community partners and employers for student job placements. Administer motivational contracts with students who require additional support in achieving behavioral and self-improvement goals.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, or related field (Master’s preferred). Experience in youth services, counseling, education, or workforce development. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to build trust and rapport with at-risk youth and their families. Knowledge of community resources, court systems, and career pathways. Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and respond to student emergencies.
