Student peer research consultants (SPRCs) are upperclassmen who have the research skills needed to assist their peers in one-on-one and class settings to find appropriate information sources for their assignments. SPRCs will help students through the entire research process including understanding the research assignment, determining the variety of sources needed, using web-based technology to locate appropriate information sources, and more.
SPRCs will also assist the Learning Services Librarian with other research-based activities, including creating online research guides, staffing the library’s chat services, and creating library book displays.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one research assistance for student peers via drop-in or scheduled appointments
Answer questions through the library’s chat services
Host or co-host Introduction to Library Services sessions for FILA 150 courses
Create library research guides for specific courses and general research topics
Curate library book displays for educational and recreational purposes
Assist with student engagement and outreach initiatives through Learning and Research Services
General Qualifications
Enrolled as a full-time student at Bridgewater College
Must be an upperclassman (sophomore, junior, or senior)
Completed at least two assignments that required library research
Basic knowledge of library services in an academic setting
Comfort with web-based technology, especially library databases
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot unexpected situations
A collaborative and communicative attitude
