THE POSITION
Student Matinee Staff are the primary on-site liaisons for all students, educators, and chaperones attending Student Matinees, educating students about the theater spaces and particular productions. Staff collaborate with Box Office, Front of House, Guest Services, and Public Safety staff as needed to best resolve requests and access needs of our guests. The typical schedule is 8:30am to 2:00pm on student matinee dates. Staff must work at least 6 matinees during the season, which is typically October - May.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dynamically communicate with students, to inspire and invigorate them, from first welcoming and engaging students onboard their bus upon arrival.
- Serve as primary on-site liaison for chaperones and student groups.
- Clearly and consistently communicate to students and chaperones the expectations for the day, including how to navigate the Guthrie’s spaces.
- Educate students about the theater and the production.
- As needed, lead post-show conversations and/or teach workshops.
- Distribute snacks to students at intermission.
- Minimize disruptions and ensure safety in the theater.
- Help guide students back to their busses.
- If needed, supervise students eating lunch in the lobbies.
- Set up, take down and store Education Department signage and prepare the lobby spaces for student groups before and after each performance. Properly dispose of snack and lunch trash and recycling.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strong skills working with youth such as being a Teaching Artist or having experience in K-12 education.
- Consistently presents a warm, welcoming, and professional demeanor.
- Maintains composure in stressful situations.
- Demonstrates customer service experience.
- Can make independent decisions, exercise appropriate judgment, and maintain confidentiality as needed.
- Can communicate effectively and persuasively in oral communication on both an interpersonal and group level.
- Can repeatedly move up and down flights of stairs in various areas of the theater, including boarding the steps of a school bus.
- Can perform duties in all weather conditions, including during inclement weather.
- Can lift/move/carry a minimum of 10 lbs.
- Is willing to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater. Can commit to working at least 6 matinees during the season, which is typically October – May.
