The Student Machining Apprentice at Mate Precision Technologies will shadow a Machinist while performing general maintenance on various machines, operating manual and CNC machines within their department, and gaining experience and insight into a career as a CNC Machinist. They will also learn to inspect the products they are running using various measuring devices.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set up and run various machines while under the direct or close supervision of a qualified and experienced person.
  • Inspect work using gaging and inspection devices to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Meet expectations for productivity and quality and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Follow guidelines established for work scheduling and understand delivery objectives.
  • Participates in continuous improvement and lean activities.
  • Follow all safety rules and guidelines provided by Mate, the school, and the Department of Labor as outlined in the Youth Skills Training (YST) program.
  • Collaborate with others, is open-minded, responsive, and supportive of others' efforts to succeed.
  • Demonstrate integrity by being dependable, having good judgment, being honest, and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Respectful of others, encouraging others to share their ideas, actively listening to others, and showing common courtesy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in High School and participation in a Work Study Class that allows for employment through the YST program is required.
  • Good attitude and self-motivated.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills.
  • A willingness to learn new machining skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Occasional bending and stooping.
  • Use of hand to finger.
  • Lift, move, and pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Noise level is moderate.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.

Pay, Work Schedule & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $20.00/hour
  • Work Hours/Schedule:
    • Flexible according to the high school class schedule.
