Techlab Associate Lab Manager The Ensign College TechLab Cloud Services team maintains a student-run datacenter that supports the academic requirements for Ensign College students all around the world. With our unique relationship with BYU Pathways, we provide cloud hosting services and cybersecurity services for students and classes in a globally available datacenter. This includes providing support to students currently in BYUPW online IT programs as well as those students studying in the various Global Education Centers around the world. We are seeking student employees from any of the IT / CS programs offered on campus to work as an Associate Lab Manager in the Technology Institute.
Student Employees are eligible to work on campus in a part time capacity according to Ensign College Student Employment Policy. In addition to fulfilling this purpose, each employee continuously strives to bring about the mission of Ensign College, which is to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ.
Hours: 15-19 hours a week during semester and the starting wage for all student employees is $14.00 per hour with the possibility of $.25 rate increase each semester of continued work based on merit.
Specific Summary of Duties The TechLab Cloud Services Associate Lab Manager will be responsible to perform the following responsibilities:
Maintain basic datacenter operations including: Maintain the student-run datacenter, network and Cloud environment. Ensure that all the routers, switches, and servers are running correctly and efficiently. Maintain all the physical servers and VMs that are needed to support the many courses and needs of the Academics department.
Provide monthly reports showing status of activities and current state of the environment. Each Associate Lab Manager will be assigned to work on a specific area of responsibility and will be expected to regularly report on status and activity.
Provide mentoring services to students with questions about IT courses and providing assistance in using the many technologies used in their classes.
Participate in regular Agile Scrum meetings selecting tasks and completing the tasks in a timely manner. This will include working collaboratively with other TI employees to ensure redundancy of knowledge. This will also include communicating effectively to the rest of the team to ensure all tasks are completed on time and according to expectations.

Job Qualifications Be currently enrolled as an Ensign College student in good academic standing and taking at least 6 credits.
Current student in one of the IT programs (Cybersecurity or System Administration), or Software Engineering program.
Have taken the following classes: -- IT 235 Cloud Server Administration -- IT 255 Networking Fundamentals
Knowledge of Linux is preferred.
Knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies preferred.
Scripting skills preferred.
Available to work 15-19 hours per week.
Ability to produce effective written correspondence through email and other written communication.
Have the ability to communicate effectively in the English language, listen and respond appropriately.
Highly self-motivated, hard worker, creative, and has a great attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with the supervisor, team members, faculty, and staff.
Ability to solve problems and ask for clarification as needed.
Proficient in Office 365 and Canvas.
Position may require lifting computers, moving hardware, running cables, other physically demanding tasks
