Community Advisor
University of Central Missouri (UCM) is seeking a Community Advisor to assist in the facilitation of student outcomes. The role involves facilitating residential experiences that empower students to succeed, engage with others, embrace diversity, and develop life skills.
The Community Advisor will:
- Facilitate events, activities, and programs for residents that meet their needs and educate them while following University Housing guidelines.
- Update bulletin boards with current information and theme displays.
- Articulate and enforce university policies and procedures.
- Be available and accessible to students by spending time in the residence hall.
- Assist students with personal and academic concerns.
- Respond to and document emergency situations quickly.
- Act as a referral agent for students.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Know all the students in the community.
- Eat meals in the dining center to interact with residents and advocate for a positive dining experience.
- Develop a staff community by supporting and displaying a positive attitude toward all staff.
- Conduct floor/hall meetings as needed and/or requested by the supervisor/University Housing.
- Build relationships with faculty/staff of the university.
- Assist students in finding ways to get involved in clubs, organizations, Hall Council, intramurals, etc.
- Support the policies and programs of the University of Central Missouri.
The Community Advisor must:
- Practice open communication with University Housing.
- Act as a positive representative for the university.
- Know and understand policies and procedures.
- Document all situations appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Discuss all outside activities with the supervisor in terms of time management.
- Work directly with the supervisor to set program dates/deadlines/plans for each semester.
- Remain in the residence hall all but 18 nights per semester with no more than three consecutive nights absent.
- Work one regular shift per week at the front desk.
- Attend and participate in all staff training.
- Be available for the opening and closing of the residence halls.
- Be available for staffing assignments on full staff/closed weekends.
- Participate in the duty schedule and complete tasks of duty personnel.
- Complete administrative tasks such as job orders, weekly reports, incident reports, etc.
- Share equally in the check-in/check-out duties and all other scheduling of hall staff.
- In emergency situations, at least half of the staff may be required.
- Additional expectations may be set by University Housing.
Typical qualifications include:
- Must have completed at least 24 credit hours prior to placement and lived in University Housing or group living for at least two semesters.
- Maintains a 2.50 grade point average, both cumulative and semester.
- Be in good standing with the university and University Housing.
Compensation includes a single room, $700 allocation towards the cost of a meal plan, hourly employee appointment, and a total payment of $1000/semester. The position is appointed for 12 hours/week student employment.
References required: two references, one from a University Housing employee and the other from a former work supervisor or work peer. Both references need to know they are being listed.
