Library Services Student Worker
Library Services is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and service-oriented student to support library operations by maintaining the organization of collections and delivering high-quality customer service to all patrons. This position includes a combination of behind-the-scenes tasks, such as shelving and organizing materials.
Duties Include:
- Perform inventory checks of library materials
- Sort, shelve, shift, and straighten library items accurately
- Maintain proper call number order by reading and organizing shelves
- Learn and apply the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems
- Handle materials with attention to detail, especially when working with alphanumeric sequences
- Assist with special projects related to collection organization and upkeep
- Maintaining the confidentiality of patron information in accordance with library policy
Education: Only currently enrolled UCM students are eligible for this position.
Experience: Required: Reliable and punctual, with strong attention to detail. Ability to work with a varied population of students, staff, faculty, and community members. Comfortable working independently and taking initiative. Strong communication and customer service skills. Work hours may vary during normal business hours, with the possibility of some evening hours. This position involves excessive standing and/or walking. Candidate must be able to manipulate full book trucks and large books up to 40 lbs.
Preferred: Prior experience working in a library or customer service environment. Familiarity with the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems. Training will be provided for all duties, including the use of library systems and classification tools. Opportunities for increased responsibility may be available with experience.
