The Department of Computer Science is seeking a motivated and skilled student assistant with experience in Python programming and web development. The selected candidate will work closely with faculty members on various projects, including web-based applications, data analysis tasks, and the development of educational materials. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a collaborative academic environment, enhance technical skills, and contribute to ongoing research and teaching initiatives.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development and maintenance of web-based applications and tools.
Write and optimize Python scripts for various academic and research-related tasks.
Collaborate with faculty on the design and implementation of interactive web features for course content.
Support faculty in data analysis and visualization projects using Python and related tools.
Participate in regular meetings with faculty to discuss project progress and receive guidance.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to web development and programming tasks.
Document code and processes to ensure reproducibility and ease of understanding.
Provide general technical support to faculty as needed.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled student at Middle Georgia State University in the School of Computing pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours during the semester of employment.
Proficiency in Python programming with experience in data analysis, scripting, or automation.
Solid understanding of web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with web frameworks such as Flask or Django.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with faculty and other team members.
Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
Prior experience in a similar role or relevant projects is highly desirable.
