Integrity Educational Services is currently seeking a Full-Time Student Advocate/Registrar to serve Lighthouse Academy students in Ottawa and Muskegon sites.

At our Lighthouse Academy locations, we offer residential programs serving youth and adults in detention facilities, correctional facilities or intervention-based programs as well as community programs serving court-placed students, English Language Learners (ELL), students with Special Education needs, etc. Hope Academy is a general charter school in Grand Rapids, MI serving a large population of ELL and Title I qualifying students.

GENERAL PURPOSE: The Student Advocate's primary focus is to provide support for students at risk and their guardians. This position will work with school building staff (principal, teachers, social workers and other team members) to advocate for the rights of children at risk. Subscribe to the vision, mission and values of Integrity Educational Services and the applicable academy.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


- Build the Master Student Schedule - Coordinate the scheduling process with teachers and other school staff to assure students are being scheduled in appropriate courses; Develop and change schedules

- Pre-register existing students for classes; Evaluate new student transcripts, then enroll and schedule new students

- Oncestudentleavesthecurrent school site,theRegistrarcontactsthenextschoolthe student will be attending to facilitate the transition (including credits earned transfers from current school site to receiving school district).

- Coordinate assessments (MSTEP, MIACCESS, NWEA MAP, WIDA, SAT, etc.) and assure all compliance requirements are met.

- Proctor assessments and train others to assist in proctoring assessments. Ensure state assessment participation rates are achieved.

- Assist with team approach (student, parents/guardians, probation officers, teachers, advocate and school principal) to assess an appropriate intervention plan (including pathway to high school graduation and post- secondary options) and participate in the discussion regarding appropriate intervention plan.

- Meets with identified students to seek suitable options to help resolve concerns. Reports and articulates student needs/concerns, with appropriate parties.

- Demonstrated ability to implement school process and procedures.

- Assist students with being proactive in making choices that will lead to their academic growth and success and, ultimately, graduation.

- Assist with transition of students including making sure learning plans/goals and other student data is communicated to the receiving school. May need to visit the receiving school i.e. Lighthouse Academy, Hope Academy of West Michigan, or other school district).

- Work as part of the school team and assist with creating a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to educational practices.

- Attend assigned trainings and school related meetings/activities including, but not limited to, field trips, family dinners, school-related events with students/families, conferences and parent conferences.

- Assist students in setting up college/career visits or participation in dual enrollment/post-secondary enrollment.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.


Training:Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft and/or Google applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.


Language Skills:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.


Education and/or Experience: Bachelor degree or combination of post-secondary course work and work experience in education, psychology, social work and/or human services, preferred. Demonstrated experience working with at-risk students and families, required.
