The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lifeguards to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing! Recreational Sports Lake Wauburg Lifeguards will be tasked with overseeing all water based activities and ensuring the safety of our members and guests. Duties at Lake Wauburg include monitoring boaters on the lake, operating a motorized rescue boat, and working equipment rental at the boathouse.
RecSports Team Member Responsibilities
Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Code of Conduct that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.
RecSports Fall Kick-Off 6: Tuesday, August
Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August , 6. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August -, 6 for mandatory unit-specific trainings
Unit Specific Job Responsibilities
Lake Wauburg Lifeguards work at North Shore and shifts are 6.5 - 8.5 hours long. Responsibilities include swim area watch, rescue boat operation, and equipment check-out. You must have reliable transportation to apply.
Perform all necessary lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR skills as certified by American Red Cross
Maintain a current Florida Boater License to operate the Rescue Boat for Lake Watch
Observe and enforce all facility rules and regulations
Monitor the safety of swimmers and boaters on the lake
Perform all appropriate saves/rescues as needed for swimmers or boaters
Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors
Provide customer service and safety briefings to patrons renting boats
Assist patrons with launching boats into lake
Obtain working knowledge of Hobie Cat Wave sail boats through internal training Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed
Monitor access to the waterfront facility to ensure only valid users and their guests are admitted
Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed
Attend mandatory departmental Fall training and all monthly meetings/in-services
Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Lake Wauburg Administrative Team
Answer phone and inform the public of hours of operation, areas of interest, reservation policies and special events
Maintain restrooms, clean, empty trash and re-stock daily
Expected Salary: $. per hour
Minimum Requirements: This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to hours per week.

Interest in outdoor recreation, customer service, and campus involvement.
Reliable transportation to get to Lake Wauburg North Shore
Successfully complete a Lifeguard Try-Out (pre-employment water test)
Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification by start date.
Availability to work two shifts per week during operating hours, including weekday, weekend, and over academic breaks.
Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and in-services
Attend mandatory trainings
Preferred Qualifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
Current Florida Boater License
Previous experience operating a motorized boat.
Previous experience working at a waterfront facility.
