Job Summary
This role supports daily office operations, provides welcoming front-line service to visitors, assists with programming and communications, and helps maintain a vibrant, affirming space for LGBTQ+ Hoosiers and their allies. This position involves meaningful interactions with students, campus partners, and occasionally, families or guests who may be unfamiliar with LGBTQ+ topics. Department-Specific Responsibilities Serves as receptionist by greeting visitors, answering phones, responding to general emails, and providing accurate information and referrals. Performs routine clerical duties and general office support. Provides library support, including checking materials in/out, reshelving library materials, and assisting library patrons. Assists with managing and updating the Center's social media accounts. Curates and distributes QNews, the Center's weekly email newsletter. Collaborates on developing and promoting programs and services that reflect the evolving interests and needs of LGBTQ+ communities. Provides logistical support for events, including identifying speakers or vendors, booking space and equipment, organizing refreshments, creating publicity, and facilitating event evaluations. Meets regularly with supervisors and participates in bi-weekly staff meetings. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or Office Manager.
Qualifications
EDUCATION Required Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University WORK EXPERIENCE Preferred Experience in customer service, peer support, or office assistance SKILLS Required Familiarity with Indiana University resources that support LGBTQ+ students, and the ability to refer individuals to appropriate campus services Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to engage with campus offices that support student well-being and safety (e.g., Office of Student Life, Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Student Legal Services, Student Health Center, IU Police Department, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Advocates, etc.) Demonstrates understanding of LGBTQ+ terminology and communities, with the ability to speak confidently about the experiences of LGBTQ+ students at IU Ability to interact respectfully and thoughtfully with individuals such as students, parents, or guests who may be unfamiliar with LGBTQ+ topics Sound judgment in knowing when to refer questions or concerns to professional staff Willingness to learn and apply University and City of Bloomington policies related to nondiscrimination in education, employment, and housing Preferred Knowledge of IU resources (e.g., Student Advocates, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Legal Services, etc.) Experience handling sensitive or confidential information
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana. This is an in-person position.
Advertised Salary
$14.50 per hour
Work Hours
Approximately 10-12 hours per week. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules.
