Direct Supervisor
Building Principal, may receive assignments from designated personnel as required.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Direct Health Care Services
Provide professional nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of student health services in alignment with physician orders and student IEP/ISP/504 and Section 504 plans.
Administer and document medications and perform nursing procedures consistent with Illinois law, IDPH guidance, and District policy.
Provide first aid and emergency response; lead or coordinate student-specific emergency action plans; communicate with families, healthcare providers, and EMS as appropriate.
Support activities of daily living (ADLs)-toileting, feeding, hygiene, mobility/positioning-and safe transfers; operate/monitor medical equipment (e.g., wheelchair, stander, feeding equipment) as indicated.
Implement infection-control practices and universal precautions; maintain appropriate health supplies and equipment.
Teacher-Directed Classroom Access
Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to align health supports with instructional goals, schedules, and accommodations, ensuring the student's safe access to learning.
Provide cueing/organization support when appropriate, while maintaining the teacher as the primary instructor and promoting student independence.
Safety
Maintain and update medical emergency information and student health plans; ensure readiness for health emergencies and drills.
Educate staff, when appropriate, on student-specific health needs and emergency procedures within RN scope and District policy.
Communicate clearly with parents/guardians and school personnel regarding health status, needs, and follow-up while safeguarding confidentiality (FERPA/HIPAA).
Data Collection and Reporting
Maintain accurate, timely health records, medication/procedure logs, incident reports, and documentation required for state and District reporting.
Oversee regulatory health compliance (e.g., immunizations; required health, dental, and vision documentation; vision/hearing screenings logistics and follow-up), including record reviews, rescreening lists, referral notices, tracking, outreach, and report preparation when necessary.
Communication and Professional Responsibilities
Communicate and collaborate professionally with colleagues, students, parents/guardians, healthcare providers, and community partners.
Maintain required licensure/certifications; complete District-required trainings; participate in school/team meetings.
Maintain and improve professional competence through ongoing learning aligned to school nursing best practices.
Meet the physical and attendance requirements of the position, including the ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods, assist with student transfers/positioning, lift at least 30 pounds, and maintain regular on-site presence.

Evaluation
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
