LOCATION: La Cueva High School, 7801 Wilshire Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122

WEEKLY HOURS - .5 COURSE CREDIT: No more than 10 hours per week. No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit.

HOURLY PAY: $15/hr stipend (No taxes withheld)

WHEN WORK HAPPENS: Monday through Friday, 8:40 AM - 3:40 PM unless instructed differently by your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor Contact Name above.

Summary of Position

We are seeking an individual to:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior cadets
  • Assist the JROTC Instructor with maintaining cadet record books up-to-date, accounting for and organizing drill equipment, and preparing equipment for competitions
  • Assist the JROTC Instructor with conducting uniform inspections, creating promotion warrants, and identifying equipment that needs to be repaired or disposed of

Hard Skills

  • Enrolled in High School or GED
  • Currently enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year of JROTC
  • Recommendation by JROTC Instructor

Soft Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organized student with a positive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn
  • Attention to work rules and deadlines

Exposure & Training provided through internship

We will teach you how to mentor junior cadets by using leadership traits and principles, identify discrepancies in records, create an effective and structured inspection routine, identify equipment that can be repaired, and create the proper promotion warrants for cadet officers and enlisted cadets.


Working and Physical Conditions/Onboarding Requirements (**vaccinations, etc.)

Please speak to your SEL Teacher/Advisor/Mentor regarding working and physical conditions at your intern site. You will also be required to sign and upload a W-9 and Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.

As part of your application, you will be expected to fill out your emergency contact information, school, and other personal information as required by Albuquerque Public Schools Work-Based Learning programs and the New Mexico Public Education Department. Failure to do so or omission, or erroneous information will result in your application being rejected.
