: Summary: Student Interns in the Investigative Reporting Workshop (IRW) will work as researchers and reporters with publishing partners on a variety of subjects. Subjects include, but are not limited to, immigration, public health, and law enforcement. IRW Student Interns report directly to the Executive Editor of the IRW, and will interact with other staff, students, faculty, and consultants of the IRW. This position is open to undergraduate students at American University. This position does not have a Federal Work Study (FWS) award. Essential Functions: Support IRW's investigations.
Check the accuracy and validity of data analysis used in projects.
Handle daily data work for the various data-driven journalism projects within the IRW.
Contribute to one or more investigative reports.
Request and gather public information.
Clean and analyze received data.
Develop journalistic stories.
Competencies: Acquiring and Analyzing Information.
Prioritizing and Organizing.
Displaying Creativity.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-Time position.
Approximately 10 hours per week.
This position is for the Spring 2026 semester.
Salary Range: $22.50 per hour.
