Reports to: Director of Special Education
Position summary: The Assistant Principal facilitates and coordinates IEP meetings and reviews and maintains proper records for students with disabilities.
General purpose: Coordinates and facilitate Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings; Maintains accurate student records; consults with teaching staff; collaborates with service providers.
Role Qualifications: Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with: General Administrative or Principal endorsement; and
Teacher Evaluator designation.
Must have earned a Master's degree in education from an accredited university.
Knowledge of federal and state special education regulations.
Must coordinate with school and district administration to meet district objectives.
Must ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
Position responsibilities: Facilitates IEP meetings (Domain, Manifestation Determination Review [MDR], and Annual Review).
Creates and coordinates a master schedule for all IEP and 504 Plan meetings.
Coordinates with elementary districts for transition of students to high school.
Maintains proper and accurate student records through data management software (Embrace).
Maintains compliance with state and federal IEP guidelines.
Updates the Director of Special Education related to caseload, special education, teacher and parent concerns, and student needs.
Collaborates with Pupil & Personnel Services (guidance, attendance, discipline, and other related services) to ensure appropriate placement of new/transfer special education students.
Consults with special education and general education teachers, guidance counselors, and deans regarding student needs and concerns including implementation of accommodations and modifications.
Contacts parents/guardians for meeting participation and consent for testing.
Collaborates with Pupil & Personnel Services related to the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) and Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA) testing.
Reviews and implements district policies and procedures while maintaining a customer-friendly environment.
Promotes communication and collaboration between school, home and community.
Facilitates 504 Plan meetings.
Conducts evaluations of staff as assigned.
Facilitates department meetings.
Conducts professional development sessions as assigned.
Develops and maintains records for scheduling purposes.
Collaborates with building administration on issues related to the student services department.
Maintains accurate records of student course enrollments.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Leadership: Ability to lead instructional review teams/process.
Management: ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
Technology: ability to stay current with educational and communications technology.
Communication: Ability to respond promptly, constructively, and professionally to parents, employees, and students using a variety of mediums.
Keen attention to detail.
Commitment to education and district values.
In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to education and special education at the federal and state level.
Valued but not required skills and experience: Advanced work in instructional strategies.
In-depth knowledge of high school curriculum and instruction.

Terms of Employment: 12-month work year.
Salary range is $95,733-$147,316, based on verified experience and education.
Teachers Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) pension.
