Position Overview:
The Faculty Senate President, through the Office of Academic Affairs, seeks a Student Worker to support The Faculty Senate. This role helps ensure the development of skills in professional writing and communication; knowledge of shared governance; and building organizational and time-management skills.
Responsibilities:
Communication and Coordination
Assist with drafting, coordination of content and distribution of communications between the SEB, Faculty Senate, and the broader faculty body (e.g., meeting reminders, policy updates). This includes assist with compiling content, editing, and formatting a periodic Faculty Senate newsletter. May involve creating and maintaining social media for faculty senate.
Help maintain an up-to-date contact list of faculty members, committees and committee reports, etc.
Assist with coordination with staff and student senate
Archiving and Document Management
Assist SEB with organizing and digitizing archived Faculty Senate paper documents, including meeting minutes, resolutions, and reports from before 2000.
Meeting and Project Support
Support ongoing projects of the Faculty Senate, including organizing events, surveys, or forums as needed.
Learning Objectives:
• Develop skills in professional written and verbal communication tailored to academic and administrative audiences.
• Learn how shared governance operates in higher education and the role of faculty in institutional decision-making.
• Gain experience in document archiving and record-keeping procedures relevant to public and academic institutions.
• Build organizational and time-management skills by supporting the coordination of meetings, events, and newsletter publication.
• Develop skills in professional communication tailored to academic and administrative audiences
Required Qualifications:
Knowledgeable of general TCNJ locations, procedures and practices
Basic administrative, software, and financial skills
