Examples of Duties Provides leadership for the effective development, implementation, and assessment of support services provided by the branch. Directs the Student Health Branch in establishing an array of services, including extended learning opportunities, adherence to state and federal mandates, and creating systems to maximize Medicaid direct service claiming and the Medicaid Administrative Claiming program statewide.
Provides leadership and gives direction to the Student Health Branch when working within OSSS, with other state offices and complex area staff in providing program services, technical assistance and consultation services to schools, districts, complex areas and complexes.
Provides leadership oversight through staff utilization that includes, roles and responsibilities, selection and evaluation of personnel based on accomplishment of objectives. Establishes priorities of program needs through staff involvement. Reviews and provides constructive feedback on reports and documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with program goals, while holding staff accountable for meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work products.
Directs and reviews assessments of programs through formative, summative and other system-wide data analysis in providing directions for program modifications. Provides leadership to maximize collaboration among personnel within the branch and to cross-collaborate with other offices to develop partnerships in support of student health and Medicaid-related initiatives.
Directs and reviews research projects undertaken in the Student Health Branch and cooperates in the coordination with research projects of other institutions and agencies. Keeps abreast of new programs, national best practices, research studies that support the direction taken by OSSS, the Student Health Branch, complex areas and schools.
Directs and reviews information, reports and testimony to various stakeholders, such as the Legislature, Board of Education, Department leadership, schools, parents and families, and public and private agencies.
Serves as the Department's representative at various public and private organization and agency meetings related to the areas of assignment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in education with specialization in one or more subject fields appropriate to the area(s) of assignment.
Preferred Education : Master’s degree in elementary education, secondary education, school administration, special education, or counseling.
Experience : Nine (9) years of responsible professional work experience in education of which four (4) years shall have been in teaching and five (5) years in curriculum or planning as appropriate, of which two (2) years shall have involved the supervision of professional personnel.
Preferred Experience : Supervisory work experience including but not limited to comprehensive student support programs, school health services, professional development facilitation, coaching, mentoring, community engagement/partnerships, program implementation and monitoring.
Knowledge : Foundations of curriculum and instruction; instructional media and computers; foundations of American education; tests and measurements; principles of learning and individual differences; curriculum design and development; educational statistics; purposes, methods, subject matter and materials pertinent to the areas of assignment; laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures pertinent to the areas of assignment; research developments, trends and current issues or problems pertinent to the areas of assignment; principles and practices of supervision.
Desired Knowledge : Foundations of sound instructional practices pertinent to comprehensive student support services and school health services; assessment and evaluation; and principles and practices of educational leadership and school level administration.
Ability to : Manage department-wide curriculum services or instructional support services programs; communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing; operate computer and other business machines; deal effectively with state, departmental and other officials to accomplish program goals; maintain awareness of developments in curriculum or program areas.
Desired Ability : Provide leadership, planning and coordination in the area(s) of assignment; develop, analyze and evaluate plans, programs and procedures; use tools, equipment, instruments or devices appropriate to the area(s) of assignment; maintain awareness of developments in curriculum or program areas; guide reasoned problem-solving and sound decision-making; facilitate improvements by managing transitions; develop and implement on-line professional development using appropriate on-line tools, organize/prioritize work and multi-task to maintain an effective pace while working under deadlines.
Supplemental Information SALARY RANGE: EOSR-10, $128,806 to $182,341. Department of Education certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All others will be placed on the first step of $128,806.
WORK YEAR AND BENEFITS: This appointment will be on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave provided according to applicable regulations.
