Overview This Director of Budget and Finance provides leadership for the financial strategy and business operations for Housing and Residence Life, Center for Transforming Lives/Arlington Child Development Center, Summer Camps and Conferences, and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Center within the Division of Student Affairs. This position oversees approved budgets and ensures proper accounting and budgeting processes are followed for assigned Division of Student Affairs units which includes monitoring budgets, billing and payment processes, and expenditures. This position provides financial reports and related guidance for unit, Division, and University leadership to assist in decision-making to accomplish goals and objectives for the auxiliary operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop, maintain, review, and analyze the Student Affairs auxiliary funds.
Monitor approval of expenditures and revenues to ensure compliance with State and University policies and budget.
Review and approve corrections or adjusting entries.
Prepare financial analysis reports and quarterly projections for Housing and Residence Life, Center for Transforming Lives/Arlington Child Development Center, Summer Camps and Conferences and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Center. Include detail and explanations for budget variances.
Provide recommendations and functional expertise to ensure satisfactory annual and future fiscal operations.
Handle billing and receiving for Housing and Residence Life.
Collaborate with Housing and Residences Life team and Vice President for Student Affairs to prepare and oversee budget for a 4,000 bed, over $30 million operation using trend analysis and forecasting involving historic, current-year, and multi-year review of expenditures and revenues.
Collaborate with the Center for Transforming Lives/Arlington Child Development Center and the Vice President for Student Affairs to prepare and oversee budget operation using trend analysis and forecasting involving historic, current-year, and multi-year review of expenditures and revenues.
Handle billing and receiving for the Center for Transforming Lives/ Arlington Child Development Center.
Collaborate with Summer Camps and Conferences and handle billing and receiving.
Primary liaison for Student Affairs auxiliaries with internal and external audits.
Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and comply with requests for information and audit processes.
Implement changes in policies and procedures as necessary and monitor compliance.
In collaboration with the Vice President for Student Affairs, provide leadership for the compilation of annual budget and rate structures for Housing and Residence Life, Center for Transforming Lives/Arlington Child Development Center, Summer Camps and Conferences and the Fraternity and Sorority Life Center, including preparation of annual budget documents for presentation to University leadership.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of information between departmental and university financial systems (i.e. StarRez, Conference Programmer, ProCare, and Peoplesoft) via established reconciliation procedures and reporting.
Advise on the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs related to the continuous improvement of Student Affairs auxiliaries in connection with university mission, values, and goals.
Recommend systems and procedures for internal controls as necessary.
Prepare ad-hoc financial reports for the Division of Student Affairs and Business and Finance as needed.
Work collaboratively and collegially with the Vice President for Student Affairs to ensure annual budget development, quarterly financial projections and reports, year-end process, and ad-hoc financial reporting expectations of Division and Business and Finance are achieved.
Provide training and developmental opportunities for department staff in areas of expertise including financial reporting, university budgets.
Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to assigned direct reports.
Serve on University committees as requested.
Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.
Eight (8) years related experience.
Experience with budgeting cycles, financial modeling, variance analysis, and operational forecasting.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with fund accounting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to complete projects on a timely basis and to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff.
Excellent analytical abilities to assess complex financial information.
Effective oral and written communication.
Experience with accounting/budgeting systems.
Ability to maintain an appropriate level of professional and personal confidentiality.
Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
