Overview Under the general direction of the Student Disability Center (SDC) Executive Director, this role serves as backup to the Executive Director and Associate Director, applying sound judgement and actions per University of California and departmental policies. The position acts as a campus expert and consultation resource on best practices and compliance related to SDC services and student access. It includes supervision of SDC Specialists, Captioning and Interpreting team, and a Project and Resource Analyst; manages faculty and student inquiries; carries a caseload of students with varied disabilities; evaluates accommodation requests in accordance with policy and law; and contributes to outreach, committees, budget development, and special projects as assigned.
Responsibilities
Supervise SDC Specialists, Captioning and Interpreting team, and Project and Resource Analyst.
Manage faculty and student inquiries and concerns; carry a caseload of students with varied disabilities.
Independently evaluate student accommodation requests to determine, approve, and coordinate reasonable academic accommodations, adjustments, and services in compliance with departmental/UC policy and federal/state law.
Represent the SDC and deliver outreach to students, families, faculty, administration, and staff; participate in campus-wide committees as assigned.
Assist with budget development and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in educational psychology, cognitive/learning disabilities, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or related field; experience providing accommodation services to post-secondary students with disabilities; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Extensive experience maintaining confidential medical, psychological, and educational records and communications.
One year supervisory experience.
Advanced knowledge of state/federal requirements related to accommodation of higher education students.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; initiative and ability to work independently with sound judgement.
Ability to handle conflict respectfully.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences including students, faculty, staff, families, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in related field.
Five years of experience coordinating academic accommodation services and maintaining confidential records in higher education.
Five years of supervisory experience; prior experience with Graduate and Professional School students.
Strong communication, analytical, and independent work abilities.
