Overview Associate Director, Student Affairs at Duke Department of Population Health Sciences. The role provides vision, oversight, and direction for student activities and organizations, ensuring all students have valuable involvement experiences and opportunities for leadership development. Responsibilities (Key Position Duties) Student Organization Support (40%) Direct the development, implementation, and assessment of student organization support systems. Provide strategic direction for meaningful student involvement experiences across the undergraduate experience and leadership curriculum related to student organization development and success. Provide a holistic approach to coordination, assessment, and evaluation of programmatic efforts related to Student Involvement and Leadership, specifically in support of Duke’s QuadEx initiative. University & Community Relations (20%) Initiate and develop key collaborative relationships across the Division of Student Affairs within the University community. Lead efforts to expand advisor development for staff and faculty. Assist students in creating meaningful partnerships and relationships with other students, staff and the Durham community through reciprocal participation in programs and events. Serve as part of the Campus Life team, offering opportunities for connection related to student organization support, large-scale programming, event management and logistics, and leadership development. Support office and departmental programs as an additional event support member at evening and weekend programming. Supervision & Management (15%) Provide day-to-day supervision, direct training, and evaluation and performance management for 2 Assistant Director(s) and Graduate Assistant(s). Oversee budget for area of responsibility and manage appropriate expenditures in accordance with University and Campus Life policies. Student Leadership Advising (15%) Support large-scale student coordinating/governing bodies. Attend regular meetings and events. Support student leaders in negotiating with University administrators, students, staff, and faculty on current University issues and trends. Train them on programming procedures, facility usage, contracting and negotiations, team building, publicity, needs assessment, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of their respective organizations. Other Duties (10%) Perform other duties as assigned, including executing administrative projects, team assignments, and committee work. Anticipated Pay Range Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $88,740.00. Qualifications Required Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field of study. Work generally preferred is a minimum of four years of experience in personnel, college or university administration, or a related field to acquire skills necessary to provide program management, advising and general administrative support. Strongly Preferred Experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience Minimum of four years of direct experience in student advising and governance, student organization support, leadership development, fraternity/sorority life, and program planning at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s). Prior experience managing full-time and student employees preferred. Preferred Skills And Competencies Must be familiar with current leadership theory and high impact practices. Must possess deep knowledge related to program development and co-curricular best practices. Awareness of current assessment practices. Awareness of basic negotiation and contract development.
