Description Hampton University invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Student Involvement and Leadership within the Division of Student Affairs. This role is a key leadership position that supports the overall mission of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership by advancing student engagement, leadership development, and campus traditions.
Reporting directly to the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership, the Associate Director will provide strategic support and daily oversight of student organizations, leadership initiatives, Greek life, and signature events such as Family Weekend and the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing student life and shaping a vibrant, inclusive campus culture.
Examples of Duties Student Organization and Greek Life Oversight • Advise and support the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Council of Independent Organizations (CIO), and other Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). • Assist in the administration of the Student Leadership Program (SLP) and Student Government Association (SGA). • Oversee event planning, advertising, and resource coordination for student-led programs and initiatives. • Provide guidance in Greek life budgeting, eligibility, recruitment, and event planning.
Event Planning and Program Management • Lead planning and implementation of signature campus events including Family Weekend and the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. • Support on-site supervision of evening and weekend activities. • Coordinate marketing and communication with HU media platforms. • Contribute to the development and assessment of student programming through reports and evaluations.
Summer Program Support • Collaborate with campus partners in the planning and execution of summer programs. • Provide customer service and participate in summer duty rotations.
Administrative and Supervisory Duties • Supervise staff and hold staff accountable. • Assist with report writing, budget development, and handbook updates. • Serve as the primary contact for assigned events and activities. • Provide training for staff, students in leadership and program planning.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field strongly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in student activities, leadership development, or Greek life advising in a college/university setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and support diverse student populations. Strong interpersonal, organizational, counseling, and conflict-resolution skills.
