Associate Director of Member Services, Assessment, and Student Development
Department of Campus Recreation
Oversees all aspectsof member services, assessment, and student development within CampusRecreation, oversight of budget management/auditing, and student development/training. Directlysupervises Civil Service and student staff. This position is an integralmember of the Senior Leadership Team (Executive Team) and provides input onstrategic planning, policies, staffing, facility goals, and financialresponsibilities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities :
Student Development(40%)
1. Oversee recruitment initiatives for student & part-time employment.
a. Develop marketing and promotion efforts around employment opportunities.
b. Work with marketing department to implement efforts which may include print information, website, and social media outreach.
c. Direct strategic initiatives and planning of student events.
2. Direct and develop student activities, events, tabling, employee recognition, and end of year awards banquet.
3. In conjunction with Campus Recreation HR, establish policies and procedures for student and part-time employees.
a. Develop and implement strategies for creating a diverse applicant pool.
b. Develop strategies for diverse hiring including recruitment and retention.
c. Execute orientation sessions for all new hires of hiring unit to form common departmental and institutional knowledge and values.
d. Manage the application process for 1,000+ prospective student & part-time employees per year.
e. Ensure student employees from all areas are in compliance with mandatory trainings including Ethics, Title IX, Canvas on-boarding, and ANCRA.
4. Direct and lead all aspects of all-staff student training for 700+ student employees.
a. Chair departmental all-staff training committee.
b. Ensure training includes Campus Recreation culture, risk management, and communication.
5. Benchmark with NIRSA and B1G Ten peer institutions to develop and implement leadership development training for student leaders.
a. Direct, develop, and implement Student Leadership Cohort.
6. Direct yearly educational and developmental in-services for all 700+ student employees.
7. Oversee Campus Recreation Infraction system for all student employees.
a. Review all aspects of infraction system on a yearly basis to ensure accuracy.
b. Oversee yearly training for all student staff supervisor of infraction system.
Member Services(20%)
8. Direct a comprehensive Member Services Operation.
a. Directly oversee all business transactions in the Member Services area including but not limited to sales, refunds, memberships, cash handling, payroll deductions, etc.
b. Develop and execute member satisfaction surveys to gauge overall member satisfaction. Make changes and adjustments based on survey results.
c. Set policies and guidelines for communication with students, RSOs, and patrons.
d. Establish membership goals around recruitment and retention; Create and implement strategic plans to accomplish goals.
e. Direct development of policies and procedures for special group usage of Campus Recreation facilities.
9. Subject matter expert for all aspects of point of sale and member management system (Fusion).
10. Continually research and evaluate the membership structure and determine feasibility of any potential structural changes in the payment options.
11. Develop strategic planning for fees, supervision, and budget.
12. Provide strategic leadership and vision for the department's customer service model.
13. Examine and assess new member recruitment.
Supervision (10%)
14. Direct hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of 150+ student employees including Student Development Interns, Student Lead Employees, Member
Service Managers, Customer Service Assistants, and Facility Assistants.
a. Determine staffing needs and ensure hiring of qualified candidates.
15. Supervise all pro staff for Member Services, Assessment, and Student Development
16. Conduct evaluations and provide performance feedback for all pro staff in Member Services, Assessment, and Student Development.
17. Encourage and support professional development for full-time reports and all part-time student staff.
AssessmentResponsibilities (20%) 18. In conjunction with Student Affairs leadership, establish policies and procedures for assessment within all Campus Recreation program areas.
19. Provide leadership to all programs and units in Campus Recreation related to data collection, evaluation, and assessment.
20. Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives to assess Campus Recreation programs and services, analyzing and benchmarking trends, assessing
satisfaction, and assisting in organizational development reviews.
21. Ensure the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of programs and policies are conducted in accordance with established standards and defined
processes.
22. Provide on-going semester and annual updates on pertinent measures of success including participation, assessment data, and financial status.
23. Provide training and support for staff conducting their own research and assessment, including working with units to incorporate stakeholder feedback and assessment
data into program development.
24. Develop assessment data for monthly, mid-year, and yearly reports regarding departmental hiring efforts and initiatives.
25. Oversee and manage the department's assessment committee including learning outcomes articulation and assessment program.
26. Analyze and interpret data from department assessment activities and prepare reports for use by department.
27. Maintain current knowledge of multiple sources of data on campus, monitor assessment efforts by other campus assessment agencies, and collaborate when possible.
Departmental Duties:(10%) 28. Establish and manage a yearly budget for member services, assessment, and student development.
29. Attend state and regional student leadership conferences, workshops, including accompanying student participants.
30. In lieu of Executive Director and Senior Associate Director serve as student staff liaison.
a. Serve on student focused committees within Campus Recreation and provide updates to the Executive Director and Senior Leadership.
b. Work as a liaison between students and program area staff to improve student experiences within the department.
31. Serve as primary point of contact for student and part-time employment inquiries.
32. Serve on Division and/or University committees as assigned.
33. Design and implement special projects that support the overall mission of Campus Recreation.
34. Participate as a member of the Campus Recreation professional staff in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
35. Participate in the development of programs, departmental objectives, and long-range planning by performing research, providing recommendations, and implementing
plans as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Administration, or related field. A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training, and/or work experience providing program assessment, member services, and/or student development in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Administration, or related field.
Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of assessment and data analytics.
Experience with Fusion or similar participant registration platform.
Experience developing and implementing student development initiatives.
Experience supervising students in leadership capacities.
Experience working with students.
Experience supervising staff responsible for operating a recreation center.
Experience serving on with assessment or student development at the national level or within NIRSA.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training for students and staff, and the measurement of training effects.
Knowledge of budget oversight involving strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to develop assessments.
Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to adjust actions in relation to others' actions.
Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups
Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems.
Ability to analyze and develop guidelines, procedures and systems.
Appointment Information:
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Program Director position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after November 9, 2025. Salary $85,000 - $90,000 and is commensurate with experience.
