Position Summary Under the lead work direction of the SSP IV and general direction of the AVP, the Student Success Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for collaborating with leadership in the Cultural Academic Resource Centers (CARC) in helping to coordinate programs and carry out general student services. The Coordinator will have a keen eye to strategically embed male student support throughout each CARC.
In conjunction with leadership, the Coordinator will create and implement programs and services related to student learning and development that align with the mission of Student Affairs; assist in the recruitment, development, enrichment, inclusion, retention, and student experiences of a diverse Sacramento State student population; serve as a liaison to various offices and programs across campus and to external and community partners with regard to issues related to male identifying students; seek and draft grants for external funding and engage in other fundraising efforts; and recruit, hire, and provide lead direction to student staff and interns as needed. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships within Sacramento State and the larger community to create and administer programs and services that support the retention and success of, and improve the campus climate for men, BIPOC, first-generation, low-income, and other diverse populations. This position will also represent the male initiative efforts and its affiliated Programs on appropriate committees as needed. FLSA : Exempt (not eligible for overtime)

The following knowledge and abilities as well as those listed at the lower levels in the Student Services Professional series are required for appointment into this classification. Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Experience:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Required Qualifications Working knowledge of the activities associated with providing service and support for all students in an embedded Cultural Academic Resource Center (CARC) resource model, including knowledge of diversity and social justice issues, especially those focused on identity issues.
Understanding of and familiarity with educational equity principles.
Ability to work and collaborate with students, staff, and faculty from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to provide lead direction to student assistants and volunteers.
Ability to work independently and possess self-direction skills to be able to initiate plans, organize, prioritize, multi-task, and coordinate work in a fast-paced organization.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose, draft, and edit correspondence, reports, notices, and conference announcements.
Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
Ability to advise students on sensitive issues.
Ability to train others on new skills and procedures.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel as needed.

Knowledge of General Education requirements in the California State University system.
Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising processes and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
