Position Specific Summary
Overview: Dining Services is part of GW's Business Services Team overseeing all food operations on both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon Campuses. The Student Food Service Worker is a key member of the GW Dining Services team, supporting daily operations in our all-you-care-to-eat (AYCTE) and retail dining halls. This role provides students with hands-on experience in hospitality, food safety, and customer service while ensuring a welcoming dining environment for the GW community.
Primary Position Responsibilities include:
Food Preparation & Service Assist in preparing, portioning, and serving meals in GW Dining locations. Replenish food stations and maintain proper food presentation and portion control. Maintain Cleanliness & Sanitation Keep serving lines, dining areas, and workstations clean and organized during shifts. Follow all ServSafe and university food safety guidelines, including proper handling and storage of food. Customer Service Greet and assist students, staff, and guests in a friendly and professional manner. Respond to basic customer questions or refer complex issues to a supervisor when necessary. Safety & Compliance Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards at all times. Team Collaboration Work cooperatively with fellow student employees and staff to maintain smooth operations. Attend scheduled team meetings and training sessions as required. Other Duties as Assigned Support special events, catering, or additional dining service tasks as needed. Standard Position Description The student will provide food service assistance for the university by monitoring food service practices or supporting GW and/or community events. Tasks may include: monitoring dining hall food availability and food safety practices, performing as a server, assisting with kitchen prep, setting up facilities/dining areas for events, or greeting guests. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
