Summary
This is an hourly position for current registered students. As part of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) team, Student Community Engagement Assistants serve as leaders by offering front line customer service and support to students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University of Michigan-Flint campus during community engagement events. Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, they will specifically support and attend department community engagement events and programs on campus and in the surrounding community. They are responsible for, in part, helping organize, set-up and break down department events/programs, operating and supervising the game room of the Mobile Community Engagement vehicle. They may provide support service to the department's Mcard and parking operations. Responsibilities*
Support educational information. Open and close event spaces. Perform engagement room/space set-ups and take downs for events and programs including tables, chairs, mobile engagement vehicle activities, and other furnishings. Set-up and troubleshoot video/audio/visual equipment and systems. Clean event spaces between events and programs. Represent the University of Michigan-Flint in a professional and courteous manner, providing a positive experience throughout programs and events. Provide safe guest experiences. Attend scheduled meetings and events. Act in accordance with, and enforce, all University and department policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by DPS supervision. Required Qualifications*
Current registered student at a college/university- open to students outside of UM-Flint. Must have valid driver's license. No arrests or convictions. Knowledge of setting-up and operating gaming systems. Good communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal). Knowledge of the University of Michigan-Flint and surrounding community. Possess organizational skills, initiative, attention to detail and positive attitude. Desire to assist others and provide excellent customer service as an individual and as part of a team. Able to make sound decisions and work independently at times. Able stand, sit, bend, move, and lift/move 50lbs or more repeatedly. Demonstrate professional etiquette in all interactions. Able to work a flexible schedule. Available shifts vary: days, afternoons, evenings, weekends. Able to work for an entire semester; prefer commitment through the Spring/Summer semester. Modes of Work
Onsite The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
