The California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking to hire one student assistant. Under the general supervision of the Marketing Manager and/or Graphic Services Supervisor and under the close direction of the Graphic Designers in the Sign Program, the student assistant will receive practical experience with developing sign artwork and working with graphics on a computer and will become familiar with State Parks' procedures and processes in the development and production of signs.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.

Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation
$17.74 - $20.86 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of elements of design such as line, shape, texture, space, size, value, and color. Knowledge of procedures for creating traditional and/or electronic files for output; knowledge of Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel. Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain good work. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of silkscreen/die-cut/inkjet sign processes. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Learn to draft signs using a computer and graphics programs such as Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop); use techniques of reproduction and printing processes of silkscreen, direct print, and offset printing; provide design and proofing assistance in the traditional and digital creation of signs, artwork, and graphics. Provide administrative and technical support for the Sign Program unit. Administrative support includes making copies, writing sign orders, and preparing order packets for Prison Industry Authority (PIA), park units, or sign vendors; answering the phone and relaying messages; preparing sign follow-up packets with required documentation for districts. Assist with updating the Sign Program intranet site using content management. Assist in logging and filing sign drafts into their respective sign folders; help maintain electronic sign folders; track incoming sign orders; review field inquiries for order status; assist in reviewing PIA quote calculations for accuracy. Assist with projects involving graphics, scanning, printing, illustrations, preparation of presentation materials, mock-ups, mechanicals, and preparation of electronic files. Assist with sign warehouse duties (assist with inventory or perform quality-control product reviews). Other assigned tasks. Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
