Position Overview
At Spring Lake Park Schools, we believe each student, family, and staff member should feel seen, valued, and connected. Our community is richly diverse, and our Student and Family Advocates create meaningful opportunities for students, families, and staff to learn from one another's cultures and lived experiences. The Student and Family Advocate plays an important role in cultivating a school culture where belonging is not only encouraged but lived out daily- honoring the strengths of our racial, ethnic, linguistic, and cultural identities. By fostering authentic relationships and dialogue, the Advocate helps bridge connections among home, school, and community so that all students are positioned for success. The Student and Family Advocate will be based between two elementary schools and will also collaborate closely with a network of Advocates across the district (preK-12).
Key Responsibilities: Design and sustain connections that honor and celebrate cultural diversity while fostering belonging for all students with support of the Lead Social Worker and School Leadership Teams
Build strong, trusting relationships with students and families to ensure they experience a genuine sense of belonging and are supported in achieving their goals
Lead and support student affinity groups and coordinate or assist with inclusive family involvement events in partnership with school leadership teams
Facilitate open, culturally responsive communication among families, students, and staff to create shared understanding and alignment around student success
Consistently promote high expectations and high achievement for every student, affirming the strengths and potential they bring to our community

in personalizing learning for students, meeting academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success.
Preferences
We strongly prefer candidates who have experience working with students with diverse backgrounds, as well as candidates who are bilingual and biliterate in any of the following languages: Spanish, Arabic, Somali, or Hmong. Demonstrated experience in communicating and collaborating across cultural differences is desired.
Qualifications
Candidates with a bachelor's degree in education, youth development, multicultural studies, or related fields are preferred. The successful candidate must hold a high school diploma or equivalent with applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in this role. Additional demonstrated qualifications include commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills; highly effective interpersonal skills.
