The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., is a public magnet high school that offers a dual curriculum of college-preparatory academics and pre-professional arts training. It was founded in 1974 by Peggy Cooper Cafritz and Mike Malone , two African-American artists and activists, with the goal of providing talented youth with access to arts education regardless of their background or financial means. The school is named after the renowned jazz musician Duke Ellington, who was a native Washingtonian.
Position Specific Summary Assist with general office tasks such as filing, copying, printing, and organizing documents Manage calendars and schedules for rehearsals, performances, and departmental events Draft emails, internal communications, and event reminders as directed Maintain and update databases, contact lists, and digital files Support event preparation (e.g., signage, box office, house management support, RSVPs, printing programs) Take notes during meetings and help follow up on action items Assist with social media scheduling and marketing materials Provide day-of-event and rehearsal support when needed Run errands and assist faculty, staff, and guest artists as needed Other administrative tasks as assigned
Standard Position Description
The student will serve as an administrative assistant and perform tasks to support the operations of the the office or department. Task may include managing small to mid-level projects or events, responding to departmental inquiries, assist with communications and marketing, data entry, and other general office tasks. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
