Summary
The Specialist, Student Communities, helps implement the comprehensive strategy and initiatives to achieve SHRM/SHRM Foundation’s objectives and goals for students as HR emerging professionals, by supporting initiatives and programs to serve this segment. The position influences and coordinates organizational resources and collaborates with the entire cross-organizational Student Strategy team to activate and implement the student strategy through programs and campaigns that engage members and prospective members in the student and emerging professional segments. This position serves a key role in building relationships inside SHRM and with affiliates to drive SHRM goals and objectives with key constituencies. Supports membership growth, engagement, and retention strategies for the students/emerging professional segment. Analyzes market research data to better understand segments, recommend enhancements and new products/services and to support student and transitional membership growth as well as student chapter growth.
Responsibilities
Contributes to and implements plans to achieve the business, operational and financial results of student programs and emerging professionals’ strategies. Works directly with and collaborates with other departments to execute the strategy.
Establishes, maintains, and strengthens the relationships with SHRM student volunteer leaders, members, and our affiliates to achieve the Society’s strategy and objectives on membership. Coordinates all SHRM stakeholder input including SHRM staff at headquarters and remotely to secure SHRM business objectives with these key constituencies—student, student chapters and emerging professionals.
Supports, working with the communication and marketing teams, to plan and execute the marketing and communications strategy for students in order to educate, inform and engage emerging professionals and students on membership, student chapters, services, and resources.
Supports other team members, or handles as needed, projects to create materials, programming, and activities to educate and train volunteer leaders for their student chapter leadership roles and other programs that are part of the student strategy implementation and engagement with affiliate organizations.
Help manage and provide stewardship for the annual budget for the students and academic affiliate engagement program; manages expenses with care and attention; processes invoices and works on monthly accruals and rolling forecasts to manage the budget throughout the year.
Oversees affiliation and governance requirements and compliance for student chapters; supports chartering new student chapters and coordinates that process and other related onboarding activities for new student chapters.
Occasionally makes presentations on SHRM for related audience segments to achieve overall program objectives.
Manages the student email box to insure immediate responses to inquiries.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Human Resources, Marketing, or similar field. Advanced degree or additional certifications are helpful but not necessary.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an association, non-profit organization, or business, preferably in marketing, membership services or similar areas.
Experience in working to develop and execute a plan.
Experience working with volunteer leaders is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.
Strong organizational and facilitation skills with demonstrated experience in project management efforts and executing an overall strategy.
Attention to detail and executing deliverables in a timely manner.
Excellent member and customer service focus with the ability to influence and/or persuade stakeholders. Must be diplomatic, team-oriented, and sensitive to the needs of members and staff to work across a large organization, secure resources, build relationships and identify opportunities is essential.
Creative approaches to problem solving are required. Ability to simultaneously coordinate a variety of complex projects and work within activity program deadlines is needed.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in giving public presentations or speaking activities.
Ability to manage budget and financial resources.
Prior work with volunteer organizations is helpful, but sensitivity to and awareness of volunteer needs is essential.
Proficient in using various software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar CRM software.

Work Environment
Hybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00AM – 9:00AM and concluding between 5:00PM – 6:00PM.
Travel: 20 – 30%

The hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $82,500 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
