Title: Secondary Counselor

Under general supervision, provides students with a comprehensive guidance program that promotes self-esteem development, responsible behavior, career exploration and educational planning; provides assistance to students and parents and collaborates with community resource personnel, staff and faculty to create and assist with the development and implementation of programs and services for the school.

Essential Job Duties: • Develops and implements individual, small-group, and schoolwide intervention and prevention strategies designed to increase student engagement, retention, and graduation rates; assists students in identifying academic and post-secondary goals and selecting programs that best support those goals. • Conducts comprehensive student analyses to assess population needs, establish caseloads, and identify students at risk of dropping out by utilizing dropout profile indicators. • Provides outreach and support to parents/guardians of students identified as being at risk of not graduating. • Collects, monitors, and reports student progress toward academic, graduation, and post-secondary readiness goals. • Reviews and transcribes student transcripts for accurate data entry and academic planning. • Designs and facilitates training sessions for middle and high school teachers on effective instructional and support strategies for students identified as at risk of not graduating. • Collaborates with faculty, counselors, and administrators to develop credit recovery options, alternative programs, and differentiated instruction tailored to the needs of at-risk students. • Monitors and tracks the progress of individual students and subgroups as they transition through middle and high school; conducts formative and summative evaluations to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • A Master's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related area is required . • A minimum of three years' experience as a counselor or closely related experience is required . • Valid Professional Standards Commission-approved certificate in guidance and counseling at level S-5 or above required . • Experience working with secondary at-risk students is preferred.
