Position Summary
NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME.
Under the general direction of the Director of QEP and Student Services, this employee conducts campus-wide retention and intrusive advising/coaching activities. The Retention Specialist/Student Success Navigator facilitates student success workshops, prepares and implements academic success plans, develops educational goals with students, plans and coordinates individual retention strategies, and assists in the Career Center as needed.
Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E4 05 ($35,390-$51,793), which is based on years of directly related full-time experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance, with flexibility to accommodate students' needs.
2. Work with students in assigned cohorts through proactive, intentional advising in person, virtually, and electronically.
3. Hold regular meetings with students to develop academic success plans, establish educational goals, and support degree completion.
4. Provide proactive intervention for at-risk students, including those on academic probation or financial aid warning.
5. Monitor student registration, academic performance, persistence, retention, progression, and graduation.
6. Coordinate advising communications that engage students regarding course scheduling, major requirements, personal and professional goals, and available resources.
7. Refer students to appropriate campus or community support services, assisting with scheduling when necessary.
8. Interpret and utilize career assessments to support student career exploration and planning.
9. Assist in the Career Center and with related career development activities.
10. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate student success and career workshops, as well as faculty and staff development sessions.
11. Develop, implement, and assess student success initiatives, including early warning and referral programs.
12. Manage and utilize reporting systems, tracking tools, and surveys to analyze data and inform strategic interventions.
13. Document all services, contacts, and outcomes in a timely fashion.
14. Complete and submit all required federal, state, local, and institutional reports.
15. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and academic support offices to provide resources and interventions that enhance student success.
16. Participate in registration, pre-college orientation (New Student Experience), graduation, and other College events.
17. Serve on College committees, including Strategic Enrollment Management and others as assigned.
18. Contribute to College planning processes and remain current on best practices and research in student retention and success.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by designated supervisors or the President.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
One (1) year of full-time experience working in education, social services, counseling, or a related field, or work experience relevant to the essential duties and responsibilities of this position
Requires self-motivated individuals with demonstrated leadership and management skills who enjoy working with students, faculty, staff, and the general public
Ability to work under supervision, on a team, and independently
Ability to work a flexible, nonstandard work week
High degree of workplace professionalism
Effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the English language
Proficiency in public speaking before both small and large groups
Strong computer skills; proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of best practices in higher education academic support services and retention practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
Experience with Banner software
Experience with developmental education and/or academic success initiatives
Experience with academic advising, academic support, and retention services

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.
