POSITION: Middle School Student Support
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal & Assistant Principal
STATUS: Full Time/Non-Exempt
Hours/Work Day: Monday - Friday 7:30-3:30

PURPOSE: At Tapestry Middle School, our Student Support Specialist provides leadership and direction to the community by working proactively to create a safe, welcoming, & secure school culture grounded in Tapestry's core values. The Student Support Specialist collaborates with administration & staff to support behavior management strategies. These strategies foster relationship building, consistency, and fairness and implement research based practices that are rooted in looking for restorative solutions first. Through positive, timely, and productive communication this role builds a synergistic support for students, families, teachers and administrators.
School-wide Responsibilities
Work with the Principal, Assistant Principal & Dean of Students to promote a safe, welcoming, respectful, and kind school-wide environment for all stakeholders.
Support 5-8 students and staff in a variety of ways including but not limited to being a strong presence in the hallways/ bathrooms during transitions, arrival, & dismissal, answering teacher calls for support from 5th-8th grade classrooms, and bringing students together to learn how to resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
Manage, implement, and monitor the completion of restorative practices with students in accordance with our Code of Conduct.
Provide positive support for students who may need a break throughout the day.
Maintain Power School Comments for 5th - 8th grade, which also includes communications to the grade level teams, calling parents/guardians, conducting investigations, gathering student statements as required, following up with staff as necessary for more information.
Develop an ongoing organized system for record keeping & documentation
Communicate with the team as needed for ongoing student support
Support teachers when restorative interventions are needed.
Work with the school counselor & social worker to identify students who may be in need of additional academic and/or emotional support.
At the request of the administrative team be prepared to assist as necessary throughout the day
Positive Relationship Building Re-enforce Tapestry's PIRR traits with students and staff each day
Cultivate opportunities to engage and support student well-being and academic achievement.
Creating a safe and productive school environment Actively supervise students in the cafe during lunches
Demonstrate both understanding of all emergency procedures & leadership during emergency situations to ensure safety at all times.
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to a member of our support team.
