1 week ago Be among the first 25 applicants Duties The Research Division undertakes empirical research related to the operation of the federal courts, often at the request of the Judicial Conference of the United States and its committees, specific courts, or other groups in the federal court system. Responsibilities The primary duties of the graduate student research assistant are to support Research Division project teams in designing and conducting social science research aimed at improving judicial administration in federal appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts. Specific tasks, under the guidance of a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate, may include: Conducting literature reviews Organizing, coding, and analyzing data Creating and documenting datasets Creating tables and graphs to present research findings Developing research instruments such as interview protocols, questionnaires, and coding protocols Writing and administering online surveys Writing reports of research findings The Federal Judicial Center offers telework and flexible work options. This position is remote-eligible and does not require relocation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. citizen, with exceptions at https://www.uscourts.gov/careers/search-judiciary-jobs/citizenship-requirements-employment-judiciary Must complete a background check Relatives of Center staff cannot be employed at the Center Qualifications Enrolled in a graduate program in social or behavioral sciences (psychology, sociology, political science) at an accredited institution, full-time Research experience as a student, intern, or volunteer Knowledge of statistical software (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R) Knowledge of database management (Excel, Access, FileMaker) Strong writing and communication skills Employment terms vary by semester, with summer commitments of at least 8 weeks at 30-39 hours/week, and 12-15 hours/week during spring/fall. Max hours per week: 39. Salary First and second-year graduate students: $19.65/hour Third-year or completed degree: $22.11/hour This is a part-time position with no benefits.
