Casual Labor for the Wellness and Recreation Group Fitness Program serves as a Group Fitness Instructor responsible for providing patrons with safe, fun, and effective group fitness programming while helping class participants reach their fitness goals based on specific formats.
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, promote, and lead safe and effective group fitness classes - 50%
Create a welcoming class environment for all fitness levels and encourage and motivate class members.
Demonstrate and promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
Effectively explain and demonstrate proper exercise techniques, as well as offer modifications to accommodate all participants.
Identify different muscle groups and teach appropriate methods to strengthen and stretch specific muscles.
Create digital flyers to promote class(es) on department digital/social medial platforms.
Answer participant questions to support them in achieving their health and wellness goals.
Implementation of emergency action plan as needed.
Participant recording keeping - 5%
Maintain accurate class attendance records in a timely manner.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment and facility - 15%
Maintain cleanliness Group Fitness equipment, studio, storage areas.
Set up and monitor class equipment and ensure its return in serviceable condition.
Assist with maintaining stereo, music, and equipment inventories.
Upkeep cleanliness of storage and sanitize equipment.
Policy/Procedure Enforcement - 10%
Understand and enforce Wellness and Recreation and area specific policies and procedures.
Provide general fitness education to users.
Ensure that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.
Serve as a resource for facility and department - 10%
Build effective, authentic relationships with patrons, help others connect with one another and to the Georgia College community.
Interact with patrons as an ambassador of Wellness and Recreation.
Be a Team Player - 10%
Arrive early for class(es) with an enthusiastic attitude.
Commit to your class(es), both the days and time, and participants! Do everything possible not to cancel a class.
Sub for other instructors when needed.
Go out of your way to get to know your fellow Wellness and Recreation student and professional staff (example: fitness assistants, member services reps, supervisors, scorekeepers, officials, climbing wall staff, lifeguards, etc.).
Attend required trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
Support campus initiatives lead by Wellness and Recreation as well as other special events.
Follow Wellness and Recreation policies and procedures.
Uphold and exceed the expectations of Wellness and Recreation: ethical reasoning, critical thinking,
teamwork, initiative, and professionalism.
Assist as needed in various departmental functions.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma
Other Required Qualifications
Must have or be willing to obtain a current Fitness or Group Fitness related certification; once received must maintain currency to remain as active staff.
Certifications accepted, but not limited to: ACE, AFAA, NETA, Les Mills, YogaFit, Spinning®, NASM, Zumba, etc)
Required Experience
Enrolled at GC
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Be an ambassador for all things Wellness and Recreation.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Adult First Aid, CPR/AED Certification, preferred but not required.
Preferred Experience
Prior experience teaching/leading group classes
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Plan, prepare and instruct safe and effective group fitness classes

Ability to multi-task and work independently
Ability to lead others creating an inclusive welcoming environment
Provide fun and motivational instruction and education on the benefits of healthy living through exercise
Able to work a minimum number of hours/week (recommended 2 classes) on a set schedule
Able to attend Fall and/or Spring Training
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledgeable in Group Fitness techniques, dynamics, and in a variety of Group Fitness classes/formats, plus strength training and cardiovascular exercise.
Proficiency with audio/visual equipment
