Federal Work-Study Automotive Tool Room Assistant Position Title: Federal Work-Study Automotive Tool Room Assistant *Student Position Only* Classification Title: Federal Work-Study Hourly Rate: $15.05/hour Close Date: Open Until Filled Position Type/Employee Class: Student Position Instructor Status: Not applicable Overtime Eligible: Non-Exempt FLSA Status Campus Location: Bend Primary Purpose: To assist with Automotive Department with the tool room, lab space, equipment, and student service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare instructional equipment and vehicles for instructional purposes. Maintain the Tool Room in good order (i.e. tools cleaned and put away promptly, etc.). Maintain and repair electrical and mechanical equipment as instructed. Check equipment in and out to instructors and/or students based on current and future established procedures. Be alert to security concerns, and report matters of security or safety to Campus Public Safety or Campus Services immediately. Secure doors of rooms not in use. Provide good customer service by providing efficient and courteous service to staff, students, and customers. Remain flexible with job tasks and shift hours to maximize the effectiveness of each program. Routing cleaning of shop floors, tables, and equipment on a daily basis. Provide basic and directed support for the primary instructors in the education of students in the lab experience. Perform other duties as assigned. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with tools and shop equipment that are used in Automotive. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video, and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the Automotive Program Director and program staff and faculty on a regular basis. Ability to work with Automotive Program Director, faculty, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience. Must be able to take direction from all department staff members. Able to analyze, organize, and complete transactions on a timely basis. Must be flexible with job tasks and hours. Must be able to work with a diverse population and to interface with College staff and the public effectively and diplomatically, both in-person and on the telephone. Ergonomic Requirements: Regular office hours are established between 8 am 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. Standing is required 50% of the time. Occasional exposure to fumes and vapors. Must occasionally handle equipment that is heavy. On-going exposure to some grease, oil, and dirt. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. Minimum Requirements: Awarded and accepted Federal Work-Study for 2025-26. Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid.
