Community Prevention and Student Assistance Counselor-Hybrid

Description: The focus of this hybrid position (CPIP and SAC Counselor) is to provide/present evidenced based programming (EBPs) in the Oswego County community and local schools. Providing groups and/or individual sessions with youth and families at risk for substance abuse. The Community Prevention Counselor, under the OASAS CPIP Grant, will work with other agencies in the community with the goals of- 1. Closing gaps in the continuum of care by making EBP's accessible to and utilized by specific underserved populations across socio-ecological settings. 2- Connect regional resources to local prevention deserts to reduce prevention disparities by establishing the Prevention Network infrastructure. and 3.- Broadening the reach of prevention services in the region across the lifespan. The Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) meets with school staff to implement EBP’s in classrooms, garner referrals and assesses student for individual or group work. SAC are often are asked to present information to school staff on drug/alcohol issues and often visit health or other classes to orient students about this service that is available to them. Counselors are required to travel to various school sites in Oswego County.
Requirements: Masters’ degree in Counseling, Human Services or a related behavioral or social science field preferred. Related experience will be taken into consideration.
Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) or experience in substance abuse clinic preferred. Related experience will be taken into consideration.
