As a CBPO, you will be responsible for enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations, as well as facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel. You will also conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances, determine the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States, and prevent the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
Typical assignments for CBPOs include:
Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and international shipping
Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
Requirements and Qualifications Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
Age Restriction: Must be referred before your 40th birthday (some exceptions apply)
Veterans' Preference: Eligible veterans may qualify for excepted service appointment
Benefits CBPOs are eligible for a range of benefits, including:
Annual base salary ranging from $61,111 to $124,443 per year
Eligibility for up to $45,000 in overtime pay per year

Additionally, officers may be eligible for recruitment incentives, which can provide an additional 15% to 25% of their salary each year for the first three to four years of employment.
