Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads both students and employers for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This position will provide administrative support to aid in college-wide Advising and Student Success Offices' goals of providing effective and efficient customer service through outreach, onboarding and advising operations for new and returning students via telephone, email, virtual and/or live chat in order to increase the matriculation and persistence of students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Govern daily front desk operations of the Advising & Student Success Office.
  • Answer inbound calls for the college-wide advising department phone number.
  • Schedule advising/orientation appointments.
  • Complete administrative duties related to Student Development courses, including preparing adjunct faculty contracts in the adjunct database.
  • Scan, review and link documents in Perceptive Content.
  • Complete campus data and curriculum changes.
  • Maintain and order office supplies.
  • Ensure students receive professional and efficient customer services.
  • Provide specialized information to support staff and the public on college programs, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in computer competencies, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Publisher, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), e-mail and procurement software, such as eVA
  • Demonstrated knowledge PeopleSoft or related student information system and Perceptive Content (Image Now) or related document imaging system
  • Experience in providing direct customer service in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assist public, faculty and staff in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to function and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prepare oral and written communication
  • Knowledge of college admissions process and programs of study
  • Knowledge of state and federal policies regarding FERPA
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures, ability to maintain records, confidential documents, statistical reporting, and schedule classes
  • Experience working as an administrative assistant in an office environment
